George Weah, President of Liberia
Before his passing, President Carter became a global icon of democracy and human rights around the world and is considered a friend of Liberia due to his personal pursuit of peace during our civil crisis.
His organization, the Carter Center, has made invaluable contributions in helping to rebuild Liberia from the years of crisis, including through its interventions in the health sector, access to justice, and freedom of information programs.
As one of those who was an active participant myself in efforts to bring peace to Liberia, I fondly recall how the former American leader labored for Liberia, for which we ought to be grateful.
He left an indelible legacy, and will amongst other things be remembered for his unreserved sense of humility and commitment to peace, democracy, human rights, humanity, rule of law and the health sector around the world.
I urge his family and friends, the government and people of the United States, and all those impacted by his demise to take solace in the Lord.
